Chelsea issue Carneiro apology

Chelsea issue Carneiro apology
Dr. Eva Carneiro

The former club doctor and the Blues have reached an agreement to end employment tribunal proceedings, as well as those against Jose Mourinho, now manager of Manchester United

Chelsea have apologised to Dr Eva Carneiro, as the club reached an agreement with their former employee to end employment tribunal proceedings.

In a statement released on the club's official website, Chelsea expressed regret at the way in which Carneiro left the club and offered unreserved apologies.

"The club regrets the circumstances which led to Dr Carneiro leaving the club and apologises unreservedly to her and her family for the distress caused," the statement read.

"We wish to place on record that in running onto the pitch Dr Carneiro was following both the rules of the game and fulfilling her responsibility to the players as a doctor, putting their safety first."

Carneiro brought the employment tribunal, which came to an end after two days, following her resignation after Chelsea's Premier League match against Swansea in August 2015.

The 42-year-old claimed constructive dismissal and brought separate legal action against Jose Mourinho, claiming sex discrimination and harassment, though both cases have now been settled.
